Joining Gear to Echo Plus
Open the Amazon Alexa app and click on the Smart Home icon
Scroll down to Your Smart Home Skills and click on Enable Smart Home Skills
Search for SmartThings and link your account by logging in
this will link all your devices and scenes currently added to the SmartThings hub
In the Devices screen click on the + icon in the top right corner
Select Add Group and choose a room name
Select the Gears that will be part of the group
Now you can use the following commands which Alexa can process:
"Turn on [room]" - all blinds go up
"Turn off [room]" - all blinds go down
"Set [room] to ___%" - all blinds go to desired percentage
Enabling Voice Commands to Use SmartThings Scenes
In the Amazon Alexa app, click on the menu and go into Routines
Click on Settings and navigate to the Assistant tab to select Routines
Add a new routine by clicking on the + icon on the top right and set up the following
When this happens > Voice and enter the phrase as [voice command]
Add Action > Smart Home > Control Scene and select [scene name]
Click on Add and then Create
To execute the scene say "Alexa, Open [voice command]"
Optional Voice Command Modifications
In the Amazon Alexa app, click on the menu and go into Routines
Click on Settings and navigate to the Assistant tab to select Routines
Add a new routine by clicking on the + icon on the top right and set up the following
When this happens > Voice and enter the phrase as Open [Room] (or Close [Room])
Add Action > Smart Home > Control Group and select [Room] with the Turn On (or Turn Off)option
Click on Add and then Create
To operate the blinds, you can now say "Alexa, Open [Room]" or "Alexa, Close [Room]" to fully open or close shades
Additional Notes
Be careful not to name the group very similarly to the name of the scene
